A short history

On the 7th of November 1962 the `Eindhovense Studenten Badmintonvereniging' was founded officially. In presence of 15 enthousiastic students the first four-headed board was formed. Under guidance of this board the badmintonclub was `raised' and the search for an appropriate name started. Because of minor dispute on the choice of name for the club, this was postponed on the 7th of November 1962. More than a year later on the 4th of December 1963 an agreement was reached and the first registered meeting of "E.S.B.V. Panache" was held. Why this name was chosen became clear to the outer world when, after twelve and a half years, the first secretary gave an interview in the Mini P'ette of April 1975. The board was struck with a feeling of euphoria by the Latin translation of Panache: 'Zwierige dapperheid met een zweem van branie' (something like `elegant courage with a tiny bit of naughtyness' in English). The existence of Panache as the Eindhoven Students Badmintonclub was a fact.

Through the years, Panache has undergone strong growth. Meanwhile, the club has over 90 registered members, of which about a half actively participates/organises events. Ever since the founding of the club a lot of commissions were set up and dismissed, and a lot of boards were active with this, from origin, pure sportsclub. Through the years, people left common sociability societies and the amount of `cosiness members' of Panache grew. Now that the 8th Lustrum passed by already, Panache has changed a lot. The original mascotte Panieknie is lost and is followed up by Panaxie. Members do not only come for sports, but for each other and the atmosphere around it. Yet still the core activity of Panache is bringing badminton playing students together. All the things that happened with Panache in all those years, can be read in the `historics of Panache' (`Historiƫn van Panache', in Dutch), a digital version of the history book of Panache, in honnors of the 7th lustrum compiled by a few enthousiastic members. The club is very thankful with this immensely valueable initiative.

The last version of the hisory book describes Panache up to the board of 2003-2004. This version can be found here:
